BEING A MALE IS A MATTER OF BIRTH. BEING A MAN IS A MATTER OF CHOICE. – Edwin Louis Cole
A man who accepts the flaws in him and tries to fix them is any day better than a man who thinks of a flaw as a question mark on his manhood. Accepting your problems does not make you any less of a man and nor does it prove you as a weak person.
According to the Men’s Health Network; lack of awareness, weak health education, and unhealthy work and personal lifestyle are some of the major reasons behind the deteriorating well-being of men.
Now, the lack of awareness can also be the result of ignorance and avoiding the topic. We need to understand that health issues are not supposed to be hidden or ignored but should be acknowledged and dealt with as soon as possible.
These are some of the health problems that are hard for men to accept:
Depression And Suicide Tendencies
Various researches and studies have concluded that a majority of men suffer from depressive disorders because of reasons like responsibilities, high expectations, pressure from society, and finding it hard to share their thoughts.
According to THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH, an estimated number of 6 million men suffer from depression and have suicidal thoughts, annually.
Some ways to fight depression include:
- regular workout sessions
- communicating
- socializing
- writing down your thoughts
- seeking professional help
Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation is a type of sexual dysfunction, and that makes it even harder to accept as the toxic society sees sexual dysfunctioning as the person’s fault and makes it something to be ashamed of.
Premature ejaculation can be a frustrating experience both inside and outside of the bedroom. The good news is that it is not always permanent and is usually fixable. However, the fear of judgment and shame does not allow men to seek help and so they end up creating a bigger problem for themselves
some ways to fix this problem are:
- behavioral therapy
- counseling
- medications
Please seek proper medical assistance.
Erectile Dysfunction
This is another sexual dysfunction like premature ejaculation, that men are afraid to accept. Erectile dysfunction or impotency is a problem faced by a lot of men and it can cause stress, affects their self-confidence, and contributes to relationship problems.
Psychological factors are responsible for about 10-20% of all cases of erectile dysfunction. It is often a secondary reaction to an underlying cause. In some cases, the psychological effects of ED may stem from childhood abuse or sexual trauma.
Some of the most common psychological causes of ED are:
- stress
- anxiety
- guilt
- depression
- low self-esteem
- trauma
ED should not be ignored and it is advised to seek proper medical assistance if you suffer from it. Also, encourage others to normalize talking about such concerning topics.

Alcoholism And Other Addictions
Any sort of addiction is a heavy burden for a person to bear.
Alcoholism in itself is quite toxic for someone’s health, mind, and well-being and all this takes the worst turn when it starts affecting the family and friends of the person.
All forms of addictions originate from the same source: a person’s mind and men are more likely to fall into such addictions as they find it hard to communicate or express their emotions. And this just adds up to the list of things they find hard to accept and discuss.
In general, when someone has a tendency toward addiction, there is not necessarily a limit on the number of substances to which they may become addicted therefore it needs to be rectified before it gets too late.
Sometimes men also find it difficult to talk about certain health problems like various STDs and end up burying themselves deeper into the problem that might be fixable.
Please do not have unrealistic expectations from men around you and allow them to fall weak and ask for help.
